Barbeques and solemnity hard enough to square...how about huge blow-out sales and solemnity? Sigh. Usually I try not to buy anything on such days, but we needed a couch. Technically, it's Ryan's money, though, so I didn't buy anything.

I did call my Grandpa, but he decided to walk to the phone instead of rolling the wheelchair over (Ack!) so it was a short conversation. Nothing like "Well, they say I'm not supposed to stand up, and I'm feeling kind of woozy" to get me off the phone fast. Try it! It works!

PS- I went to Breadloaf the year before it supposedly got good. I had young children and was from the West Coast, not connected to the literary community, and had to plan in advance to have any chance of attending, and I didn't know at the time that if you weren't a fellow or a waiter you'd be dissed by the faculty and waiters and fellows and guests. This was my first big conference and perhaps things have changed, but at the time, it wasn't worth the sacrifice to attend and I regret choosing that for my Big Conference. Writers are used to being ignored, but being dissed was just plain rude.

Jeannine- go to a pet store and check out the products for removing pet odors. They are liquid and you can spot treat or add them to a rental carpet shampooer tank. FaBreeze, or antibacterial spray may also work, though it will leave behind a fragrance that may be as annoying as the odor, for a time. Or call Stanley Steamer and just have them do it.
