The journal wasn’t started exclusively out of her own pocket: she took a friend of mine for a chunk of cash in getting it started. Seattle was hungry for a new literary journal, and Cranky came along at the right time and is a very strong journal, but the editor is not so selflessly dedicated to the arts as one might be encouraged to think.
