I found myself paralyzed in the face of the FB thread because I thought: well, success relative to what? I’ve grabbed some of the golden rings you mention and often feel immensely privileged; I often also feel overlooked and underestimated, struggling to publish work that should be an easy sell, and guilty about letting myself down by not keeping priorities straight. So, yes, success seems like a moving target. I try to ask myself instead: “So, what good work can I do today/ this month/ this year?”
